Hello,

If someone bought a house that has 2 bedrooms but shows as 2 in the at the county assesor. It seems one room was added without permit can you still rent the home as 2 bedroom instead of one or do I have get approval from city to this or what should one do to rent home as 2 bedrooms?

@Horacio Gutierrez

You ‘can’ rent it as a 2 bedroom but probably not legally. Personally I would rent it as a 2 bedroom as long as it meets city requirements ie; window large enough for egress, a closet, a door, and minimum electrical outlets. The chances of this backfiring are HIGHLY unlikely. Once you inquire, at a minimum your property will be reassessed for the extra bedroom and your property taxes will reflect the requisite increase.
