Property management playing games!
We were renting and our lease was set to expire Mar 8. We asked the property management if we could leave a week earlier and not have to pay a weeks rent. They agreed to this. We were done Mar 2 and sent them an email, if they would like to get the keys ( 2 reminders in fact on Mar 2 and Mar 3). Never got a response to either of them. They did a walkthrough and got the keys on Mar 8. No delay from our end. Now, they are saying that we did not return the keys on time and they are keeping a week's deposit. What legal recourse do I have? Property is in San Jose, CA.

Did you get the approved request to leave a week sooner than your lease end date in WRITING? everything in real estate has to be in writing. If you didn't, youneed to go by the end of your lease date, IMO.
