Condo insurance policy
We are in the process of buying a condo to rent it out. I contacted our insurance agent for a landlord policy on the condo. They said no problem.
But the policy documents list us, the owners, as occupants and instead of just coverage from the walls in, essentially, also cover our personal property, as if we lived there.
I reached out to the agent, asking to correct the policy documents to list the property as a rental that is non-owner occupied, however the agent said that this is their way of writing up condo policies, and that in the policy somewhere it states that it’s rented 52 weeks of the year.
I am very uncomfortable with this, because if something does happen, it appears as if we have misrepresented ourselves, and that’s potentially insurance fraud. Does anybody have any experience with condo landlord policies, is what the agent is saying a common industry practice, or is something amiss here?
Thank you.
