At what % of new price would you not repair an appliance?

Looking at $180 for a control panel for an otherwise fine 11 year old Whirlpool dishwasher. New equivalent unit is $370. Anybody have a useful rule of thumb?

I have been through trying to fix old appliances. After several fixes like the one you mentioned above that got me through another six months or a year, I started buying used appliances with a "warranty," that the used appliance dealers never property serviced. I'm done with all of that- trying to deal with appliance repairs or buying used appliances is a waste of time in the long run. As an investor, your time is much better spent elsewhere than trying to save $100 by piecing together a 15 year old dishwasher. Buy a new one and spend your mental energy and time on a more productive activity.
