Abandoned Property in my place

Mark Dance
Posted

Hey Guys,

I just evicted a tenant earlier this month. She said she would move out all her crap two weeks ago and gave me an exact date. Her crap is still in my place, but she has not lived there for 3 weeks because they shut the power off on her. Is there a form or letter I can have her sign stating that she has abandoned her property and I now can take her stuff to the dump or donate it?

Thanks

@Mark Dance make sure you check with your local magistrate and possible your attorney before discarding anything. I did that once and even though the property was clearly abandoned I had to go to court and spend my time and money for an attorney just to win a ridiculous case that should have never gone to court. There may be a certain protocol required in your area and you should stick to it to keep out of trouble. If the tenant signs something then I would say you are most likely in the clear.
