Renting a room/apartment: Should I tell the landlord how much I m

I am looking to rent a room/apartment: Should I tell the landlord how much I make per month/year? They are asking what my job and income is.

How much information should I disclose if I want to rent to place? Will it make look more attractive as a candidate for the lease if I tell them a high salary if my salary is indeed that much? Will they try to increase my rent if I tell them this (such as if on a month-to-month lease)?

If you guys put yourselves in the shoes of renters, what would you do if the landlord asks you for your income and job?

I am trying to rent a private room and/or an entire apartment.

The landlord wants to rent to a tenant who has the ability to pay the rent. Be honest with them as most anyone good will verify what you tell them.
