How to deal with a flea infestation on rehabbed house.

I have a house that we pained, cleaned, changed the carpet, etc. The last time I was at house it looked and smelled fine. There were no fleas that I noticed. Now a week later the place is filled with fleas. The house is In Texas. Anyone ever had this happen to them or know how to deal with the fleas?
