Single Family Residence to Duplex

I am considering purchasing a home FHA....single family and converting it into a duplex. What are the zoning requirements for doing such in Louisville, KY? I have been told that ANY single family home in Louisville KY may be duplexed without a zoning change and or conditional usage permit. Any help?

I find that hard to believe.

I would talk to the city zoning department. There are lot size requirements, setbacks, possible sewer issues. It’s worth tripling checking everything before you spend any money.
