Doing a small amount of property "management", legal questions

So, I was hired by a partnership in Missouri to manage some of their rental units. I currently only manage 4 of them, but I don't have a real estate license or broker's license. They hired me because I had expressed interest in them mentoring me and helping me get started in real estate investing...they were in need of someone to help them manage properties, and I was in need of experience, so they asked me if I would manage a few units. I am wanting to make sure that I do this legally, though. One of the members of the partnership DOES have a broker's license--would it be legal for us to officially call him the property manager, and I would work under him as an "employee", but I'm really the one doing all of the actual work involved? Anyhow, it would be YEARS before I could get all of the licensing needed, and I am learning an incredible amount and would hate to give up this opportunity or have anything negative happen from this. Any and all advice very much appreciated!

@Jessica Hunt when you say manage "their" rental units I presume that mean they are principals and have some ownership interest in the units we're talking about? If so, then almost universally they can hire someone as their employee to manage those units without being licensed. Obviously you need to verify that against Missouri state law but my guess is that's what you'll find. If they have no ownership interest then just the opposite is likely true and you probably need a license.
