Landlord wants to sue me for a lost garage opener key

My landlord stated he will take me to court for the cost of a replacement garage system, due to a lost remote key. He stated it is for safety purposes. I offered to contact the manufacturer of the current system to pay for a replacement remote and the reprogramming of all the keys. He refused and stated that he wanted me to pay for the cost of the whole system. My contract is in my safe deposit so i don't have access to check what if i signed on to that.

What should I do?
