Need Roof on Half Duplex (Zero Lot Line)

I have a zero lot (1/2 duplex) which needs a new roof.  The owner of the other side does not have the funds to replace the roof.  Currently the roof has 3-tab shingles. One roofer wants to replace with 3-tab shingles so that it will be "laced in" with the roof on the other side. One roofer wants to replace with architectural shingles.  I am concerned the architectural shingles will not look as good as the 3-tab shingles because the difference in the type of the shingles.  Has anyone had any experience with this problem?
