Do I have to pay prorated rent for an uninhabitable room?
I was renting a room in a house when the toilet in the restroom next to my room overflowed (not at my fault) and flooded half of my room. Contractors had to tear out the carpet, the bottom half of the walls, and my door was missing. All my belongings were in the hallway, exposed to other tenants. I lived like this for 2 weeks before the landlord gave me a 30 day eviction notice on April 18 due unrelated events. I moved out before May began since the room is basically uninhabitable anyway and now she is trying to charge me prorated rent for May. Do I really have to pay this? We had a verbal agreement to rent, no official contract.
