one of my tenants (3rd floor) contacted me to tell me that the 1st floor tenants dog bit then and they had to go to the hospital. they are demanding I make them get rid of the dog. well I come here to find out what advice anyone here has on what to do. the dog has never been aggressive to me so I'm not sure why this would have happened. for any reference I'm in CT thanks!

Call animal control and or police department and find out if a complaint was issued. If no complaint was issued inform the animal control officer of the dog bite incident and say you want it investigated. Get a copy of the incident report.

You take action and just state the nature of the complaint is such that the dog has caused personal injury that required medical attention and the dog has shown aggression and must be removed from the premises, immediately within 24 hours.

I would go NO pets in the entire building.

I'd also contact your insurance agent and appraise them of the incident and see if they have any further requirements or recommendations. The incident happened on your property so you could be partially included in a suit. And if this dog ever did further damage and you failed to enforce the dog be removed you could really be in the dog house.
