Background Check and payment

I'm just starting to use TenantCloud to manage my property.. the background check option within TenantCloud is from 'Checkr' and the landlord has to pay for the background check. Are there any other options available whereby I can have the potential tenants process and pay for the background and credit check and then I get the report? Or is it ok to just run the check through TenantCloud (so that everything is in one place) and then have the potential tenants send in payments for the check... issue there is if they don't qualify.. the may not pay up. Just understanding my options..

If you sign up for SmartMove, make sure you do it from BP.  This will give you the $5 discount when you use it.  I believe the normal cost is $39.

Also, be sure to check your state landlord/tenant laws concerning application fees.  For example, in Wisconsin, you can not charge an "application fee".  You can only charge an applicant up to $20 to run a credit/background check.  This is avoidable by having the tenant pay for the service through SmartMove.  Also, it is a soft inquiry so it does not affect their credit score.
