Written Test for New Maintenance Tech's

I was looking to create a test that I can give to people applying to be a new maintenance tech for my company. People will always say they know everything, but before I interview them I think it would be helpful to hand them a 10-20 question test to see if they know enough to be worth the time of an interview where I can focus more on personality fit and soft skills than simply technical knowledge.

Does anyone have any ideas of questions? Here is an example of the type of question I was thinking about.

1. A wax seal is used on the?

A.Kitchen sink trap

B.Tub "P" trap

C.Bathroom stool

D.All of the above

They don't have to be Multiple choice but I figured getting a bunch of questions like this together could be helpful.

I imagine you mean a wax ring, however I would say nothing because I prefer the wax less rings :)

I guess I would not do it in a written test form but rather in conversation like an interview for any position. Ask...

Walk me through how to change a toilet.

How to change a light fixture.

How they would diagnose a furnace issue, a leaky sink, not working electric dryer, ect.

How to install and entry door, ect..
