Question on security cameras

I wasn't exactly sure where to post this but since it is for a MFP, I figured I would start here.

I am giving consideration to installing cameras on the exterior of the property to monitor the front door, side entrance, back yard and front yard.

Has anyone installed these? If so, what are some recommended brands/costs? Also...did you install yourself or have it professionally installed?
