How long do you keep your tenant files after they move?

I know all 50 states have their own laws about everything, but how long do you keep tenant files after they move out and are no longer your tenant?

More of a question for tenants who leave on an adversarial tone, rather than amicable spilts where there is no retaining of security deposit or eviction.
