Thoughts on Hollins Market, Mt Clare, Baltimore, MD

Hi all,

I am looking at picking up some small brownstone townhomes and wondering what people think of these areas of Baltimore from a landlord perspective. How difficult is it to place tenants? Get contractors? Deal with the city? And what do you see as longer-term prospects for the area?

My interest in Baltimore are several:

- It is close to my home in Laurel

- It was featured in some recent reports as being even better for rental income than Atlanta

- There is some investor activity around Hollins Market and U. Md. nearby

- There is long-term talk of high-speed rail between Baltimore and DC

Anybody have any experience in this area or these neighborhoods that they would like to share?

Right now Hollins market and Mt Clair are transitional areas. The problem is you don't know which way they are going to transition. One thing to consider is longer term they are some of the cheapest places close to downtown. I believe the area just west of MLK blvd. is a good bet.
