A certain line was said by Obama, something along the lines of "they paid their debt to society".
Which kinda rings hollow. The problem is that there is a revolving door justice system in the US. They let people off with probation and silly short sentences for all sorts of fairly serious things. A local woman here was selling meths from one of our houses, (thank God it was being made somewhere else) - she got probation! Now, I know I can discriminate against drug dealers, but probation for selling meth!??!! WTF!
So I'll be faced with some guy who has 20 convictions for stupid stuff, and I'm meant to say "hey, he paid his debt to society", yet the reality is that he's been a pain in the *** for most of his life and will probably continue to be until he does something serious enough to warrant a proper prison sentence.
And I'm meant to - with a straight face - say "well I would love you to be one of my tenants".
