Home Insurance - Inspections?

Robert P.

I am just about to close on my first property! (woo hoo!) My question is - Do I need to schedule an inspection for the insurance company to come out after I close? Do they even inspect the property? Very new to this, so I am just trying to be pro-active and get everything settled.

house is in MA

Hi Robert,

Congrats to you on your 1st property!!! I hope many more to come.

I have SFR so if it's commercial or multi-family that may be a different story.

My insurance company asks for specific information like age of home, age of roof, and I give them the address. They can look up all the other things like size and if it's in a flood zone. I do that as well with the tools available to me and generally send it to them to not waste their time.

I give them all this information as part of my analysis so that I know specifically what that cost will be and factor it into my analysis.

My insurance company has never scheduled a separate inspection for any of my properties.
