Experience with Section 8 - Durham, North Carolina

Attended a local REIA meeting where a person from Durham Housing Authority (DHA) did a presentation seeking landlords for GoSection8.com. It was stated in the presentation and on the site that properties could be up to $1500/mo - however it now appears that 3BR cannot be over $1200 and somehow the landlord may get less than $1100 of that because utilities must be paid out of that amount.

I won't be taking that little for the unit I'm seeking to rent now for $1400; however, I will be targeting this rent range for my next unit(s) and I wonder what the general experience is for landlords who accept Section 8 - with the program itself and with the tenants.

And does anything have any specific experience with DHA?

@Jonathan Taylor SmithThe tenant can be responsible for part of the rent, but the total rent has to be approved by section 8.  So, if section 8 says you can rent your house to this person for $1000, the tenant has a $900 voucher, then you can charge $1000, but not 1100.
