Security deposit

Hi there!   6 months ago, I rented my home.  There initially was a $700.00 security deposit.  The renter asked if he could paint the inside of the home (it needed it) in exchange for his deposit.  I furnished the paint.  He is now moving and expects to get all or part of his deposit back. ---$700.00.  Do I owe him all or part back since it was in exchange for labor? The home is in Indiana.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

Since it needed paint, and the tenant did the work, I would give him his deposit back. I suggest that in the future you don't do a deal that way.
