Illinois House Judiciary Criminal Commitee

Just received an email today about a new law  SB1547 which endorses the policy of imposing penalties on landlords for criminal conduct of tenants. The bill is being sold to legislators by its sponsors as a protection for tenants to call the police but in its current form potentially causes more problems for landlords.

The Illinois Rental Property Association (IRPOA) s looking for landlords who live in or own property in the districts of, or who personally know the legislators who are members of the House Judiciary Criminal Committee.

Senate Bill 1547 has been passed by the Senate and is now in the House. It's merits are to be debated by that committee on Thursday morning at 10 am and the IRPOA wants a sponsor to support removing the statement in the bill that expressly permits local governments to penalize landlords for criminal conduct of tenants.

Any of you Illinois BP members know the right folks give them a call tonight.
