Renting to someone with a vicious dog breed

Hello

I am currently screening tenants for a rental property I own that comes up for rent beginning of next month. I have one tenant that has a Rottweiler puppy. The dog is nice and going through obedience school.

What is you thoughts with people with blacklisted dog breeds in your rentals? I was going to charge a nonrefundable pet deposit and require them to have renters insurance.

What happens if the dog does grow up to be a bit temper mental? Will his renters insurance cover everything? I want everyone to be safe and wouldn't rent if I thought the dog was vicious. But don't know enough about the breed to say?

My brother has 2 pit bulls and they are the nicest dogs Ive met. They could never find a place to rent because he has 2 pits.

Up for any thoughts on the topic. My uncle knows the guy with the Rottweiler personally

What does YOUR insurance company say about this? Some are OK with the vicious dogs, others won't allow them. And I suggest you review dog restrictions from several other insurers to be sure that you aren't screwed if you need to change your insurer.

I would just say no due to insurance reasons.
