Can I put tenants in a property with an unpermitted room
I called the city of Fort Worth and they said they don’t issue Certificate of Occupancy for residential properties(this is confusing to me since I’m LA you need CofO for any remodel and to occupy the structure). Would it be legal for me to rent out the house with the unpermitted room? Will an appraiser include the extra addition? Could I be fined?
I haven’t closed in this deal yet just wondering if I should get it permitted or just rehab the floor and paint and avoid permits.
Thank you

This confirms what you were told about certificates of occupancy: https://www.fortworthtexas.gov...
I would contact the city and be very clear about what you are asking. This room was added without a permit. Is that a violation of the city ordinance? Will there be any repercussions if you purchase this property with an unpermitted room?
Ask anonymously! Don't give them the address or any information that can be traced back to the property. If there is an issue, take it back to the Seller and demand they correct it before closing, or accept responsibility for it yourself after closing.
