Repaying a loan in stock vs cash

Sergei Voyakin
Posted

I borrowed 1k from a friend and invested it into a stock which has grown to 1.5k. Instead of liquidating 1k in the stock, can I just give (transfer) him 1k in stock if he is OK with that (assume he is good with the investment and potential cap gains in the future)? Any laws against repaying the loan in stocks instead of actual cash?
