Is there anything wrong with me (legaly - he also bought the same stock and made 5x more than me) and is willing to take on cap gains as a thank you for me. Basic q - do I have to liquidate to pay him back in cadh OR can I use the stock to pay him off?

I borrowed 1k from a friend and invested it into a stock which has grown to 1.5k. Instead of liquidating 1k in the stock, can I just give (transfer) him 1k in stock if he is OK with that (assume he is good with the investment and potential cap gains in the future)? Any laws against repaying the loan in stocks instead of actual cash?
