Searching for my personal home. Near West End, Richmond, VA

Fellow BP friends,

I am looking for a house that needs some work that I can call home. Looking in the Mary Mumford / Tuckahoe area of Richmond, VA. If you know the area, anything and everything that makes it on MLS turns in to bidding wars and people are paying too much for some of these places. Yes its all about location, but I know there are deals to be had. You have to know someone who knows someone just to get something reasonable. A friend of mine just told me last week that he himself had sold his place at a good deal to someone he knew (Wish I was looking then!)

Anyways, please let me know if you come across anyone looking to sell.

As an owner occupant you can get first dibs on homes on the hudhomestore.com and homepath.com/state/va. Those ususally show up on the MLS but they don't always spell that out in the comments. And I have seen at least one house show up on homepath that wasn't on the MLS for several days. There will be a period of at least two weeks where only owner occupants can make an offer. You will need to work with a real estate agent to put in those offers. @Jon Deavers is a good contact for that.
