@Teema Marshall Contractors are one of the toughest pieces in your core four to find that are reliable and do what they say they are going to do. Many of them are very blue collar and not the most tech savvy. You have to be able to stay on top of them or have someone local for you that can stay on top of them to check projects 1-2 times a week. You also have to be careful not to go with one that takes on too many projects and then delays your project because they're actually too busy to be working on yours.

Meetups are a great way to meet other investors who have used certain contractors to mainly hear how their experience went with them and whether they would continue to use them or not. 

If you're still starting out - look for more light cosmetic rehabs. Try to avoid getting into a full gut project until you have 2-3 completed under your belt. Very easy to go over budget with low experience when flipping.
