Title searches on tax auctions

Anyone familiar with ways of doing title searches on properties without engaging an attorney each time?

Participating in a tax auction in a deed state (VA), and would like to do searches for liens on properties before submitting auction offers. I've registered with local county for land records that will provide deed and major recorded liens (if any) but how can I determine their balances?
