PSA: IRS letters asking to verify identity are real
The IRS has been sending a bunch of letters 4883C requesting taxpayers to call 800-830-5084 and verify their identity. They are mostly sent to people who changed their mailing addresses on their tax returns. These letters and this phone number are legit, and you MUST call.
Another similar letter is 5071C, also legit.
