Legal Advice for New Investment

Hi so I’m living and learning, while sitting in the lawyers office for closing I asked if any taxes were owed and the representative for the seller said “Well they’ll be paid now” and held up the check. Now I received a letter from the Supreme and County Court, addressed to Resident titled “Notice of Court Conference in Residential Foreclosure Mitigation Action” Are we responsible? Any advice? Shouldn’t our lawyer have protected us from this?

Pre-foreclose isnt actual foreclosure so you'l likely have a Municipal Lien Certificate where it esponges you of the debts of the home from previous ownership. Their debt is not your debt.
