Tax deduction on house hacked home warranty

L. Brown
Posted

I just bought my first home- a house hack! I would like to purchase a home warranty insurance. I was wondering if the cost of the warranty for the whole duplex (not just the cost of the rented side) is tax deductible. Thanks!

No, just an amount apportionable to the rented unit is potentially deductible.  The amount apportioned to your residence is a personal expense, and personal expenses are generally non-deductible.
