Mortgage Company Didn’t Pay Taxes

Hi BP Fam!

Over the weekend I received two delinquent tax bills from LA county for 2016-17 and 2017-18. Totaling of about $2K.

I found this odd because my mortgage bank is setup to pay for the taxes and ,per my escrow, it made payments both years...

Is there a red flag here? Is LA county just trying squeeze extra money out of me?

Also wondering if this has ever happened to anyone and how you handled it?

I would compare the bills to your escrow account detail, then call your mortgage company and make them aware of the bills.

Some municipalities have multiple layers of "taxes" -- i.e. county, city, special assessments.  Maybe your mortgage company wasn't aware of this one or it fell through the cracks.
