Best Bank for Solo 401k Accounts

What are some of the best banks to establish 401k accounts in? I originally used TD Ameritrade as recommended by my 401k plan provider, but they have changed over the past couple of years and are excruciating to work with (I just got off my 4th call with more needed tomorrow) just to invest in an LLC. It didn't used to be that way, but now they think that anything that is not buying stocks is a withdrawal from the 401k.

To the best of my knowledge:

  • Solera does not offer financial incentives to 401k plan providers when checking accounts are opened.
  • The reason they are so commonly recommended is that other banks often respond with confusion, unnecessary hassles, or refusals to open checking accounts for Solo 401k trusts. Our clients have found the responses from major banks to be incredibly inconsistent and many accounts gets closed for seemingly no good reason if they are opened in the first place.
  • Solera is not a Solo 401k plan administrator.
