Tax Sale Residential Homes

I would like to know which is the best tax sale property to buy, sale, resale, struck-off, or future sales? How do I bid on residential real estate? What should I expect when I attend? I'm in Houston, Texas.

I've never attended a sale yet, first Tuesday coincides with the busiest time of the month for me at work most of the time. From what I've seen in what I've researched, struck-off are headaches and I never found any property that was worth it (and I put way too much time looking into various properties in different counties in the area). There is definitely some potential in the sales and re-sales, I need to check out a sale one of these months.
