Condo Exterior Door - Depreciation v. Deduction

My friend owns a rental unit in downtown Chicago.  All 300 condos will need new exterior door, the original contractor used the wrong -cheap- type and now they all need to be replaced including the frame.

If one replaces this in parts during two different tax years, e.g. Dec 2015 - Jan 1015, can this be deducted rather than depreciated at 27.5 years?  The cost is $5,000 per door.

Thanks,

F
