Self Directed IRA/ Edward Jones "Owner K"

My wife & I currently have an owner K thru Edward Jones, It has awesome potential for investment & Tax shelter, Together we are able to deposit $102,000 p/year in an IRA or $35,000 in a Roth & $67,000 in an IRA.. That said, I'm hesitant to swap that over to a self directed IRA, what are the limits a married couple can invest?

We have found some vacant land we are interested in purchasing in a growing metro area. It would be 10+ years for an exit, Would rather not tie up the capital, however the IRA moneys would be great.

Thanks for any advice..
