Can I use Section 179 to expense a new roof for a commercial building?

I need a new roof on one of my commercial investment properties. Can I expense the roof or do I need to depreciate it? My CPA says I have to depreciate it over 39 years but another CPA told me I can expense it.

Need to be careful with the terminology. "Commercial" is meaningless for taxes. You can usually expense a roof on non-residential property - meaning a property where people do not live. A warehouse, retail or an office building - yes. An apartment building - no.
