Using Gold as a medium to covert credit to cash

Has anyone on here successfully use precious metals as a medium to exchange credit such as a credit cards to cash? I know there are cards that exist where there 0% promo offers and I wonder if anyone has actually done this before or perhaps even regularly. I am aware of frictional costs associated with this but it seems depending on what market your in they maybe negligible
