Mortgage options in Central America?

I'm considering purchasing a property in Central America and getting a mortgage for this out of country property. Do international or out of country mortgages exist and how do you find them? Does anyone have any good/bad experience with getting a mortgage for an overseas property? I appreciate any advice or recommendations.  This would probably be considered a commercial mortgage, but it could be considered as a residential property. I would like at least a 15 or 20 year note, but might could make do with a 10 year note.

Yes, you can get mortgages, but it isn't an easy or fast process.  You will needs lots of documentation and even more patience.  And of course, it varies from country to country.  We have lived and invested in Panama for 10 years. You can get mortgages here, but you are more likely to get one quickly for a bigger commercial project.  Esp. one in which one of the partners has connections.   Make sure you talk with other investors in the country you choose before you decide to start buying.   Knowing the ropes, before you start, will help you tremendously.
