Duplex to single family

Hey all. I would love some input from anyone that has owned a duplex but lived in it as a single family. I am buying a duplex and plan to live in it with my family for a few years and then will ultimately keep it as a rental property and add it to my portfolio so I don’t want to fully convert it. Any insight into the best way to manage the utilities as well as ideas on things you have done to make best use of the space with dual kitchens?
