Don't Get High Off Your Own Supply
The idea of social media consumption is nothing new, but it was from listening to the Bigger Pockets podcasts that got me thinking about the value of media creation versus consumption. You can make yourself famous and popular and reach a lot of people by creating lots of content, posting lots of material, streaming everything you do, and always be talking to the camera. In real estate, there are some niches that might benefit from being well known and you can promote the heck out of yourself and your business. In general, the more content you put out there, the more people can get to know you, the more you can network, the more leads and clients you can get. That's all good.
But I was listening to a podcast guest talk about how we need to get into the Tik Tok space to grow our audience, but he didn't suggest regularly consuming video, but to only make content. So it's not okay for me to endlessly scroll (I personally know it's not good for my mental health), but I want everyone else to be scrollers and followers of what I do as I continue to push out content and up my brand? This guest also did not talk about wanting an audience, but spoke about recording himself for the legacy of his family, and that really resonated with me (I really wish I had more video of my dad, though luckily I have all his journals and letters).
So, this isn't just about real estate, but about the business and use of social media. Everyone has a story, and the internet is full of life giving stories and life sucking stories, and we won't resonate with them all. What's your thought on the abundance of information and content and media out there, especially in the real estate world? I wish I could read and follow it all, but I just don't have the time or capacity. Sometimes I wish I put myself out there and shared more of my story, but wonder if I would just be another part of the noise and consumption negativity. I guess I'm just turned off my the artificial part of social media, because it seems like big influencers want hours of our time on their content, but won't partake themselves, and maybe that's just how it works for those "successful" people.
