Rochester vs Syracuse for Rental Property Investment

Joyel Manoj
Posted

Hey Guys, what are your thoughts on buying rental properties in Rochester, NY vs Syracuse, NY. I noticed some people saying that it is a depreciating market but the cashflow might be good. I am from Philly and plan on doing long-distance investing. It would be nice to hear from people who have properties in these areas or know the market. Thanks!

@Joyel Manoj - I invest and live in the Rochester, NY market  I've been focused on growing my portfolio in Rochester since late 2016 and currently hold 37 units.  I can say that property values have increase substantially over the last 4 year, esp so in the last 1 yr...like in much of the rest of the country.  Like mentioned above - selecting tenants is key as the landlord laws have not been moving in our favor.  In the summer of 2019 NYS passed sweeping changes to landlord/tenant laws making it much more difficult and time consuming to evict tenants.  I'd suggest looking into these laws and ensure your comfort level before investing.  I'd be happy to chat with you offline as well.

That said - @Danté Belmonte - Syracuse is a market that I'd really like to learn more about. I'd love to connect if you're open to it.
