Where are you going, where have you been?

I promise this post has nothing to do with murders in Tuscon. Also, once this subject line was stuck in my mind, I couldn't think of a more concise and descriptive topic name. My apologies!

Brandon,

Your article What is Hybrid Real Estate Investing? raises an interesting question: Do you ever plan to stop at step number three? In the beginning, I thought to myself, “I need to do this until I have x-amount of passive income. Then I can do whatever I want.” It's a naïve view that I'm sure many BP members shared in their beginnings—especially those of us who did not grow up learning the really important wealth lessons while seated around the dinner table. I'm sure many have reached their goals only to find themselves setting new ones. After all, achievement is addicting!

As I am developing my business plan, I can clearly see what a long haul this will be. What say you, BP members? Is there a platform you are striving to reach—an all-encompassing exit strategy for doing the work you love—or will you continue investing in perpetuity? Do you dare not speak (type) such a plan for superstition’s sake?

I'm curious, and I want to compile here brief outlines or stories that show how our community members’ real estate career (and retirement) plans have evolved. Which changes were necessity driven, and which were complete happenstance?
