Hiring the First Few Employees

Everyone, time to ask a (somewhat) rookie question.

My company has 48 rental units and are constantly doing work for the units such as remodeling and maintenance.  We also are flipping as well.

We definitely are at a point where we want to take on an employee or two full time for all our endeavors.  This will save us so much money and enable us to go take down another hundred units.

I was wondering about the rules and regulations or pros and cons of 1099 vs. W2 employees.  I know all about the technical difference between these classifications, but was wondering from people's experience which they prefer.

If anyone has experience please reply with your thoughts on this and what else to look out for when going through this big change! Thanks so much.
