I would only use 4 on the list above when you are new. The last thing you want to do is to get a roommate who you can't get out of your own house. Start with people you know, people you work with. Sometimes it's too close for comfort with friends, but friends of friends are a great option. The most important thing is that you should create a room hack lease for them and do the diligence that @William Simpson said. Don't just trust that their credit karma from six months ago is enough.
