Can you buy abandon property?

Hello I was just wondering is there ANY way you can buy abandon property? so the scenario is right next to my house has been a abandon property for about 8 months and as of today someone has broke the back door and brought all there belongings inside and personal belongings i asked them Who are they and what they are doing they said they bought the property online and left but i checked to see if the home was sold and there is no records it has been and its still In the name of the original owner so is it possible to buy property with squatters inside or take some type of action?
