Chicago Newbie looking for advice!!

Hello, I am currently interested in buying my first small home. This one house I am very interested in unfortunately does not have a garage. This is somewhat of a big issue for me as I restore cars on the side. The homes adjacent to the house of interest do have garages therefore I am sure that zoning permits there to be a garage. My question is if someone out there knows the process for constructing a garage and the costs incurred? The property is located in Chicago Illinois and is in Cook county. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, Jeff
