Zoning/ building envelope

Hello, 

I recently purchased a raw land county lot that has a rediculously small building envelope in regards to the lot's size. I'm interested in putting a single family dwelling on the property, but am very limited by such a small envelope.  Is anyone aware of how to go about getting a setback decreased or what steps are necessary to get a variance to allow for a larger building envelope? Thanks in advance for any information in regards to this!
